A Cameroonian man was arrested upon his return to the Philippines after managing to leave the country despite a hold departure order.
Oscar Ogie Mbang, 52, is now detained at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City after being arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on January 27, 2025.

A hold departure order was issued against Mbang by the Parañaque Regional Trial Court in 2020 due to fraud charges. However, for reasons yet unknown, he was able to leave the country.
Mbang was arrested when he arrived in the country on January 27 on a Philippine Airlines flight from Singapore because he was already on the BI's blacklist.
"We have no record of his departure and we suspect that he left the country via illegal means to evade criminal prosecution for his crime," said BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado.
Ferdinand Tendenilla, acting chief of the BI Border Control and Intelligence unit (BCIU), mentioned that Mbang is currently detained in their Taguig City detention facility while his criminal and immigration law violation cases are still unresolved.
If Mbang is sentenced to imprisonment by the Parañaque court, he will first serve his sentence before being deported back to Africa and will be permanently barred from entering the Philippines.
