The Bureau of Immigration (BI) discovered an attempt by a 23-year-old Chinese national to flee the country after illegally working here. The individual was apprehended at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on January 22, 2025.

The Chinese national, Li Xuanjun, is now detained at the BI Detention Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City after his working visa was found to be forged.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado revealed that Li was about to board a Philippine Airlines flight bound for Quanzhou, China when the BI's blacklist flagged him.

"The hit indicated that the passenger was wanted by the BI for possessing a working visa which he acquired through fraud and misrepresentation. Verification made by the BI supervisors on duty confirmed that Li and the person who is the subject of the derogatory hit are one and the same," according to the news release by the BI.

It was discovered that Li's working visa had been cancelled by the BI in 2023 following an investigation that revealed he had obtained the visa based on a petition by a fraudulent employer-company.

Viado stated that Li will be deported and permanently banned from re-entering the Philippines. For now, he is being held in the BI Detention Facility in Taguig City while arrangements for his deportation are underway.
