Meralco explained that the primary reason for the rate increase this September is due to higher transmission charges or the cost of delivering electricity to the company's distribution system. This affects millions of its customers, with an increase amounting to P0.2913 per kWh.

Meralco stated that its rate for September has risen by P0.1543 per kilowatt hour (kWh). As a result, the total charge has increased to P11.7882 per kWh, up from P11.6339 per kWh in August.

This implies that electricity bills for consumers using 200 kWh will increase by P31.00.
