Typhoon Basyang (international name: Penha) has slightly increased its speed as it approaches Eastern Mindanao.

As of 4:00 PM on February 5, 2026, the storm's center was about 150 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The storm carries wind speeds of up to 75 kilometers per hour near its center and gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour.

The storm is moving at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour.

The first landfall of Typhoon Basyang is expected in Surigao del Sur tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Visayas: Siquijor, southern Negros Oriental, southern Negros Occidental, southern Cebu, and southern Bohol

Mindanao: Surigao del Norte including Siargao - Bucas Grande Islands, Surigao del Sur, northernmost part of Davao Oriental, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental, northern Bukidnon, northeastern Lanao del Norte, northeastern Misamis Occidental and Camiguin

Signal number 1 has been raised in:

Luzon: southern part of Occidental Mindoro, southern Oriental Mindoro, southern Romblon, northern part of Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancilo Islands

Visayas: southern Eastern Samar, southern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, remaining parts of Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and Antique

Mindanao: Dinagat Islands, northern and central Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, northern part of Davao del Sur, remaining parts of Bukidnon, northern part of Cotabato, Lanao del Sur, northern Maguindanao del Norte, remaining parts of Lanao del Norte, remaining parts of Misamis Occidental, northern and central Zamboanga del Norte, northern and central Zamboanga del Sur, and northern Zamboanga Sibugay

After crossing Mindanao, the storm is expected to re-emerge in the Bohol Sea tomorrow morning and may pass near or make a second landfall in Siquijor and the southern part of Negros Oriental tomorrow afternoon or evening.

By tomorrow night or early Saturday morning, February 7, 2026, it will emerge into the Sulu Sea and then head towards the northern part of Palawan between Saturday afternoon or evening.

Typhoon Basyang may intensify before its first landfall but will remain only a Tropical Storm.

It is expected to weaken into a Tropical Depression on Saturday and turn into a low-pressure area by Sunday afternoon or evening, February 8, 2026.
