Twelve locations in the country are expected to experience dangerous heat this Friday, April 19, 2024, according to the forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The dangerous heat index level ranges from 42 degrees Celsius to 51 degrees Celsius, during which people may experience heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

The temperature in Metro Manila is slightly expected to drop to 40 degrees Celsius, as forecasted by PAGASA in its station in NAIA, Pasay City. Such heat will also be felt in the eastern part of Metro Manila, including Taguig City which is in the southeastern part.

The highest heat index this Friday is 44 degrees Celsius, which will be recorded in their stations in Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas, and Aborlan, Palawan.

Sangley Point, Cavite; Dagupan, Pangasinan; Puerto Princesa, Palawan; Roxas City, Capiz; Iloilo, Iloilo; and Dumangas, Iloilo will experience 43 degrees Celsius today.

Meanwhile, temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius will be felt in Bacnotan, La Union; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Pili, Camarines Sur; and Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte.

PAGASA advises the public to limit their time outdoors, especially during the peak of the heat from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; drink plenty of water and avoid tea, coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol; wear hats or use umbrellas when needing to walk in the heat; avoid heavy work during the peak heat.

If someone experiences weakness or fainting due to extreme heat, the Department of Health advises to move the patient to a shady, breezy, and cool place, remove outer clothing, apply a cold compress or ice pack to the overheated individual, and if the patient is conscious, gradually give them water to drink. Immediately call for help and take the patient to the hospital if necessary.
