Two foreign nationals, currently incarcerated at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Warden Facility at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, are to be deported back to their countries of origin due to ongoing cases related to rape and molestation.
The foreigners, identified as John Tomas Minor, 42, a US citizen, and Derek Gordon Heggie, 40, a British national, were arrested by the BI in Cebu on November 27.
The two individuals are wanted in their respective countries as registered sex offenders.
According to a report from the United States government, Minor has had a warrant of arrest since May, issued by the superior court of Spokane, Washington, where he faces charges of rape and child molestation.
As per the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom, Heggie was convicted for sexual assault back on August 10, 2005, and has committed numerous sexual crimes, including the rape of a former partner in 2013 and a domestic partner in 2018. He also has a case related to engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor.
"UK authorities warned the BI that Heggie is known to be violent, with an extensive criminal history that includes different types of sexual abuse, property damage, possession of narcotic substances, among other grave offenses," according to the BI.
The two individuals used the Philippines as a refuge to evade arrest and sentencing for the crimes they are accused of in their home countries.
Minor was arrested in a condominium unit in Cebu Business Park, while Heggie was apprehended in a residential unit in Barangay Guadalupe, Bogo City.
"They will be deported after our board of commissioners issues the orders for their summary deportation after which they will be included in our immigration blacklist to prevent them from re-entering the country," said BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
