Six Chinese nationals and one Filipino suspect involved in the operation of an abortion clinic and the sale of abortion-inducing drugs are now detained at the Camp Bagong Diwa detention facility in Taguig City.
During the buy-bust operation conducted by the Philippine National Police National Capital Region in Tambo, Parañaque City, the suspects were caught with a package of Mifepristone tablets of 25 mg., a package of Cefixime dispersible tablets of 100 mg., a package of Golden Throat lozenges, and Metrodinazole tablets, in addition to P3,000 marked money.
Mifepristone, also known as RU 486, is used as an abortion drug in the early stages of pregnancy. It blocks the natural progesterone needed for the continuation of a woman's pregnancy.
Cefixime, on the other hand, is a powerful antibiotic used for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria, particularly sexually transmitted diseases.
Metrodinazole is also an antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria.
The PNP NCRPO Regional Intelligence Division had been monitoring the suspects in Tambo for a week before the successful operation was carried out.
The PNP-NCRPO said they received information related to the illegal operation and the sale of abortion-inducing drugs in the area.
The seven suspects will be charged with illegal practice of medicine under Republic Act 2382 or the Medical Act of 1959, and violation of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act or Republic Act 3720.
