The 80th Day of the Liberation of Taguig was commemorated through a ceremony held at the Taguig City Hall grounds on February 22, 2025.
The bravery and sacrifices of the military veterans who fought for the city's freedom during the Second World War were honored.
Around 200 veterans from various Philippine veteran federations and 150 members of the Philippine Army participated in the event.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, along with Vice Mayor Arvin Ian Alit, city council members, officials of the Association of Children of Veterans (SDAI), Brigadier General (Ret.) William Esplana, Lt. Gen. Col. Enrique Rafael of the Philippine Army, and SK Federation President Joanna Pagkalinawan, led the wreath-laying ceremony.
This was followed by a gun salute from the Philippine Army.
Mayor Cayetano declared that genuine freedom is not merely being free from foreign invasion.
"Our heroes have already shed their blood, bravery, and lives for us to achieve freedom. However, our challenge today is to fight ignorance, hunger, and despair. We will continuously strive for programs that will provide genuine freedom to every Taguigeño, enabling them to fulfill their dreams," Cayetano said.
The Philippine Army Band, together with the Taguig City Chorale and Band, led the doxology.
