An estimated fifty containers of Evergreen Marine Corporation, Taiwan's largest container shipper, fell into the sea off Peru at around 9:40 AM on Friday local time, or 10:40 PM on Friday in the Philippines.

All crew members of the Ever Lunar are safe, according to the company's management.
The Ever Lunar was anchored, awaiting entry into the Port of Callao in Peru, when it was hit by a powerful wave and experienced "severe rolling."
The rolling may have been caused by a recent tsunami following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Russia, or it could have been due to harsh winter sea conditions in South America, paired with sudden increase in wave sizes.
The estimated 50 containers were at the end of the ship and fell overboard due to the impact of the powerful wave, temporarily closing the pier.
The Ever Lunar was carrying around 7,000 containers.
Peruvian authorities have assured that the fallen containers do not contain any hazardous materials, since they were filled with plastic products.
"So far, we have observed that the containers carried plastic products, and we have ruled out the possibility that these goods will cause pollution to the ocean," said the Peruvian authorities.
