A former teacher has received ₱100,000 and a cake from the City Government of Taguig in celebration of her 100th birthday.

The centenarian from Barangay South Signal is Apolonia "Ponyang" Sunio, who celebrates her 100th birthday this May 25, 2026.

"It's a pleasure to meet Mother Apolonia - a former teacher, strong, vibrant, and she even graced us with an Ilocano song! We have delivered her first P100,000 cash gift from the City Government in recognition of her long life, and the inspiration she provides to our Taguigeños," Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano said on her social media account.

On Sunio's next birthday, she will also receive ₱100,000, for as long as she is alive.

"She will receive this amount yearly as our support and thanks to our centenarians. It's such a blessing to meet Taguigeños who reach the age of 100. I pray for the strength of their bodies and minds," the mayor added.

Mayor Cayetano also thanked the taxpayers of Taguig for their support of the City Government's programs that provide services to the citizens.
