Today, July 4, 2026, marks the birthday of Laureana "Ka Luring" Franco, a Taguig City native who is in line to possibly become a saint.
Known as the Servant of God by the Catholic Church, Ka Luring was born on July 4, 1936, in Barangay Hagonoy, Taguig City. If she were alive today, she would be 90 years old.
Ka Luring passed away on October 11, 2011, at the age of 75 after battling cancer.
Throughout her life, Ka Luring dedicated herself to God through prayer, catechism, and service to the poor.
Ka Luring was the eldest of eight siblings. Despite their life of poverty, their faith in God remained strong.
Initially, she worked as a switchboard operator for the Philippine Air Force, but eventually answered God's call to serve as an unpaid catechist for the Legion of Mary in 1969.
Ka Luring helped many people during her four decades of service.
The process for her canonization, her path to sainthood, continues, especially now that the Vatican has granted the nihil obstat, meaning there are no further obstacles, to the Diocese of Pasig.
This is the official certification issued by the church censor (or censor librorum), stating that the manuscript has been examined and found to contain nothing contrary to doctrine or morality.
