Their specialized explosives experts confirmed that residents were safe from the unexploded ordnance (UXO) found on the afternoon of July 2, 2026.

UXOs are military munitions such as bombs, artillery shells, grenades, and landmines that were dropped or scattered during war times or military training but did not explode.

A resident of Barangay Hagonoy spotted the mortar cartridge around 5:45 PM on the northbound lane of C6 Road.

A jeepney driver was reportedly burning wood near a vehicle garage when he accidentally struck a hard object buried in the ground.

He immediately alerted the garage's guard who then reported it to Taguig Police Sub-station 9 at around 9:00 PM.

Police cordoned off the area and the Special Explosive and Canine Unit (SECU) was tasked with inspecting the metallic object.

Technicians identified it as a live 60MM mortar cartridge and engaged render-safe procedures (RSP) using the pick-up and carry-away (PUCA) method.

"The civic mindfulness of the citizen who immediately reported this dangerous device prevented a potentially tragic accident. Remnants of military ordnance like this mortar shell remain highly volatile and dangerous despite the passage of time. The Southern Police District commends the rapid response of our Taguig police personnel and explosive experts who isolated and neutralized the threat without incident. We remind the public to never touch, move, or handle any suspected explosive devices and to report them immediately to the police," stated Police Brig. General Glenn Oliver Cinco, Southern Police District Director.
