According to the LTO, this move is in accordance with a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, intended to lighten the load for riders who use motorcycles for their livelihood.
A memorandum was signed by LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, stating that the office will no longer collect a ₱100 registration fee for each top box or saddle bag attached to motorcycles.
Asec. Lacanilao explained, "This policy aligns with the LTO's 7-Point Policy Agenda focused on eliminating unnecessary fees and lightening the financial burden for citizens who rely on motorcycles. This provides relief to their budgets while still maintaining standards for road safety."
Despite the removal of the fee, registration of these specified custom-made top boxes and saddle bags with the LTO will still be required. This is to ensure that these additional motorcycle equipment are suitable and comply with the standards set by the LTO.
The LTO will provide certification as proof of registration for these custom-made items.
