The driver is also required to surrender their license on the day of the hearing at the LTO, coinciding with the activation of an alarm on their vehicle.

The LTO has warned that failure to appear and submit the required documentation will mean that the driver is forfeiting their right to a hearing and the case will be decided based on the evidence at hand.

"We will not tolerate any incident that endangers our citizens on the road. Road safety is our top priority, and we will ensure that anyone who violates traffic laws will be held accountable. We will not hesitate to enforce the full weight of the law to maintain order and safety on our roads," stated LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao.

In the Show Cause Order issued by the LTO, the car owner and driver are instructed to attend the hearing of the LTO's Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID).

They are required to submit a verified or sworn explanation or comment, along with original documents, to respond to the charges of Reckless Driving and to explain why the driver's license should not be revoked or suspended due to being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

Previously, several motorcycle riders were injured after their vehicles were hit by the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

According to the initial report of the Southern Police District (SPD), the MPV's brakes allegedly malfunctioned and it was unable to avoid the vehicles in front of it.

The vehicle only came to a stop when it crashed into the side of the road, heading towards a post, where a motorcycle rider was pinned and had to be helped by bystanders to extricate.

The LTO assured the maintenance of road safety and ensuring accountability for all motorists.
