The Southern Police District (SPD) has seized up to 18,961 illegal fireworks ahead of the New Year's celebrations.

In Taguig City, as many as 5,999 illegal fireworks, worth ₱45,652.00, were confiscated by the police during their patrol.

Within the SPD's jurisdiction, the value of the seized illegal items, including 18,231 banned firecrackers, pyrotechnic devices, and "bogas", totalled nearly half a million pesos or ₱452,439.00.

In Pasay City, 662 fireworks worth ₱4,930.00 were seized, while in Makati, 544 fireworks valued at ₱18,930.00 were confiscated. In Paranaque, the police seized 1,724 fireworks worth ₱243,650.00.

In Las Piñas, the police seized 856 fireworks valued at ₱9,442.00, while in Muntinlupa, the police confiscated 9,122 illegal firecrackers worth ₱125,035.00. In Pateros, the police confiscated 54 fireworks worth ₱4,800.

"This operation reflects SPD's strong commitment to ensuring a safe and joyous New Year for every resident. Each firecracker and pyrotechnic device removed from the streets represents a potential accident prevented," said SPD District Director Randy Arceo.
