General Antonio G. Nafarrete has been awarded the rank of General in conjunction with his appointment as the 61st Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). The promotion took place during the Change of Command Ceremony yesterday, July 21, 2026, at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
The event was also coincident with the Retirement Ceremony honoring outgoing Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., led by the Commander-in-Chief, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
Nafarrete previously served as the 67th Commanding General of the Philippine Army. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Bigkis-Lahi" Class of 1990.
He has previously commanded the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, and the Western Mindanao Command.
Nafarrete holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Philippine Christian University and has completed advanced military training in the United States, including the US Army Ranger Course, Joint and Combined Warfighting Course at the National Defense University, and the Comprehensive Security Response to Terrorism Course at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies.
"Our mission continues, our duty endures, and our commitment to the Filipino people shall remain unwavering," Nafarrete declared in his speech at the ceremony.
