Electric vehicles that the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has prohibited from traveling on national roads will not be apprehended for now, despite a ban being implemented on these vehicles since April 15, 2024.

This is the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which he posted on X (formerly Twitter), following his announcement to give a "grace period" to small electric vehicles such as e-trikes from ticketing and fines.

This means that small electric vehicles will merely be advised that they are prohibited from traveling on national roads, but they will not be arrested, fined, or detained at present.

In a separate video message, Marcos stated that the grace period would only last for one month.

"The scope of the grace period is no ticketing, fining, and impounding of e-trikes. If they are stopped, it is to properly instruct them on the roads they can use, as well as to remind them of the new regulations being implemented to enhance safety and order on the roads," according to President Marcos.

Under MMDA Regulation No. 24-022, e-trikes, tricycles, pedicabs, pushcarts, and kuligligs are prohibited from the following roads starting April 15, 2024:

Recto Avenue
Pres. Quirino Avenue
Araneta Avenue
Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue
Katipunan/C.P. Garcia
Southeast Metro Manila Expressway
Roxas Boulevard
Taft Avenue
Osmeña Highway or South Super Highway
Shaw Boulevard
Ortigas Avenue
Magsaysay Boulevard/ Aurora Boulevard
Quezon Avenue/ Commonwealth Avenue
A. Bonifacio Avenue
Rizal Avenue
Del Pan/Marcos Highway/ McArthur Highway
Elliptical Road
Mindanao Avenue
Marcos Highway
Boni Avenue
España Boulevard

Only the mentioned small vehicles will be allowed to cross or travel up to five hundred meters only within the national road.

According to the MMDA, they recorded 554 cases of accidents involving small electric vehicles last year.
