Over 4,000 new recruits of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have begun their intensive training at various regional centers across the country to become part of the organization.
One of the places currently conducting the training is the Philippine Coast Guard Training Center in M.L. Quezon, Barangay Lower Bicutan, Taguig City.
PCG spokesperson Rear Adm. Armando Balilo stated that the new recruits consist of 400 Coast Guard Officer's Course (CGOC) trainees under Class 30 and 3,820 Coast Guard Non-Officer's Course (CGNOC) trainees under Classes 100 through 107.
The trainees simultaneously swore their oaths at various PCG Regional Training Centers in Bataan, Taguig, Misamis Oriental, Aurora, Capiz, La Union, Masbate, and Zamboanga on October 12.
The training will last for six months and focuses on drills, basic soldiery, and Coast Guard customs and traditions.
They will also be trained regarding maritime security, maritime law enforcement, maritime safety, maritime search and rescue, and marine environmental protection.
Those training to become Coast Guards of the Philippines have already passed a medical evaluation and health assessment to ensure their physical condition can withstand the rigorous training.
Currently, the PCG has an estimated personnel strength of 30,000.
