President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called on senators to return to work amid an "impasse" or deadlock in the Senate between the majority group led by Senate President Allan Peter Cayetano and a minority comprised of former Senate Presidents including Vicente Sotto III.

The failure of the Upper House of Congress to conduct sessions is hindering the passage of laws and responding to the country's needs, according to Malacañang.
In a live video by Cayetano on social media, he explained that the majority's absence yesterday was only used as a "parliamentary tool" to protect the truth.

According to Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who was present with the Senate President in the live video, "don't blink, this might be the last chance that truth and reason will prevail," referring to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee's investigation into ghost flood control projects.

Yesterday, the minority group, SB 11 or Solid Bloc 11, issued a statement condemning the majority's absence at Senate sessions following the release of a warrant of arrest by the Sandiganbayan against Senator Jinggoy Estrada over the issue of ghost flood control projects.
The minority also pushed for the call to oust Cayetano from his position. Rumors are circulating that if the current minority gains the numbers to become the majority, the new Senate President could be Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.
Prior to this, SB 11 walked out when the majority attempted to change the rules for attendance at Senate sessions, where the majority is advocating for remote attendance so that those unable to physically attend the Senate hall can still participate.
