Prior to this, there was news that Mayor Abby Binay would run for mayor in Taguig City instead. However, her earlier statement that she would decide by March did not come to fruition.

During a press conference in the Senate, Senator Binay stated that there was a 70% chance she would run for the mayoralty of Makati. She added that she would strive to avoid creating disorder within their family if she and her brother-in-law were to compete for the same position.
"Of course, my consideration is that at the end of the day, I can't neglect my fellow citizens in Makati. The one who will care for them must be able to provide the same level of care that the Binays have given," said Senator Binay.
This is her last year in the Senate, the elder sister of Mayor Abby is therefore preparing for her next political pursuit.
