Super Typhoon Francisco, internationally known as Mekkhala, is currently causing heavy rainfall in the northern region of Luzon.
It is forecasted to further intensify within the next 12 hours.

Based on the latest weather forecast by DOST-PAGASA as of 11:00 PM last night, June 22, 2026, the eye of the storm was located 440 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, or 450 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan.
Its wind speed is at 185 km/h near the center and gusts up to 230 km/h.
Signal number 1 is now raised in Batanes, northeastern Cagayan (Gonzaga, Santa Ana), and the eastern Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Is., Didicas Is., Camiguin Is.).
The heavy rainfall is not only due to the typhoon but also due to the southwest monsoon.
Super Typhoon Francisco is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday, June 26.
