Two Chinese nationals were rescued by the Philippine National Police (PNP) while two more foreigners who had detained them were arrested in an operation in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City recently.
Personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Southern Metro Manila District Field Unit, together with the Southern Police District, entered a commercial building in BGC on December 20, 2025, at 3:50 p.m.
In a locked room, they discovered the two Chinese men with injuries, and learned that they were employees of the two foreign suspects.
A 32-year-old Chinese man and a 30-year-old Taiwanese man, who had been detaining the two, were arrested for violating Article 267 (Serious Illegal Detention) of the Revised Penal Code.
The authorities identified the location of the victims and suspects after a Chinese national friend of the victims reported the situation.
According to the whistleblower, the victims were employees of a construction firm owned by the two foreign suspects, and since December 18, they had been physically abused and held captive.
The victims were found by police with injuries and bruises indicating abuse.
"This operation shows that the PNP will not hesitate to act when human dignity and freedom are violated. No one is above the law, regardless of nationality," said PNP Acting Chief Police Lt. General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
"We will not tolerate illegal detention and harm. We will act promptly to rescue the victims and hold those responsible accountable," he added.
