One hundred thousand milkfish, or bangus, fingerlings were released into Laguna de Bay, in the area of Taguig City, on June 23, 2026.
The Taguig City Agriculture Office stated that the objective of this action is to maintain the fish population in the lake and to assist local fishermen in their livelihood.
This is part of the quarterly lake-seeding program of the Taguig City Government implemented through the Taguig City Agriculture Office.
"The initiative aims to ensure a sustainable fish population in Laguna de Bay and provide long-term livelihood opportunities for fisherfolk who rely on the lake as their primary source of income. By replenishing fish stocks, the program helps improve the productivity of local fishing grounds, increase potential harvests, and support the economic well-being of fishing communities," said the Taguig City Agriculture Office.
The fingerling dispersion also contributes to maintaining a healthy lake situation.
"The fingerling dispersal also contributes to environmental conservation efforts by helping maintain the ecological balance of Laguna de Bay. The regular release of fingerlings supports the replenishment of aquatic resources, promotes biodiversity, and encourages the sustainable management of one of the country's most important inland fishing grounds," added the agriculture office of Taguig.
Among those who participated in the release of milkfish fingerlings were the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Chairman, Councilor Lamberto "Totong" Mañosca, City Agriculture Office head Emelita Solis, 12 presidents of the Barangay Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Councils (BFARMCs), and the fishermen of Taguig.
