Qualified children will receive nutritious food daily for 120 days. This program is also being implemented in all barangays in Taguig, where it is expected to improve the health and increase the proper growth of undernourished children aged 6 to 59 months.
Under the theme "Nutritious Food Combined with Mother's Milk," the launch in Barangay Calzada was attended by 38 children aged from 6 to 59 months, along with their parents and guardians.
There was also a lecture for parents and child caregivers about health, nutrition, proper child feeding, food preparation, and more.
Children received nutrition packs containing vegetables and fruits, oats, biscuits, iodized salt, fortified wafers, milk, eggs, cheese, soup, pasta, and other fortified food.
The food in the nutrition pack was specifically chosen to supplement the child's dietary needs.
There was also a feeding kit containing a spoon, fork, plate and cup for the child to use throughout the program.
Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Maria Natividad Monsod emphasized the importance of proper nutrition, especially during a child's growing stage.
Monsod also encouraged parents to actively participate in the program.
"The Dietary Supplementation Program is a promotive, preventive, and rehabilitative intervention to improve the health and nutritional status of undernourished children by providing them with nutritious food for their growth."
The Dietary Supplementation Program is managed and monitored by Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS).
For 120 days, participating children will receive nutritious and balanced food to support healthy weight gain, proper growth, and mental sharpness, and overall well-being.
The program also promotes the correct supplementary food while the mother is breastfeeding.
The supplementary food under the program is not a replacement for the benefits of mother's milk.
