An 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck the far eastern region of Russia, the Kamchatka Peninsula, earlier this morning, generating a tsunami that reached 10 to 13 feet in some parts of Kamchatka.

The first wave, measuring 30 centimeters or 1 foot, hit Hokkaido, Northern Japan, with authorities warning of subsequent stronger waves.
Tsunami warnings have also been issued for Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Guam and other islands in Micronesia.
In the Philippines, a tsunami warning has been issued, with waves not exceeding one meter, expected to hit between 1:20 PM to 2:40 PM, on July 30, 2025, in the following areas:

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has issued a warning to residents on the coastlines of these areas, that they may be hit by a tsunami and should therefore evacuate and exercise caution.
