A 60-year-old American man accused of defrauding Medicare in the United States to the tune of $1.2 billion was not long held in the Detention Facility of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

Working in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the BI arrested the suspect, Herbert Leon Kimble, in a commercial area of Pasig City on June 11, 2026.

This follows two years of Kimble hiding out in the Philippines.

Kimble is accused of being involved in a sophisticated scheme to defraud Medicare of $1.2 billion through the use of orthopedic braces.

Kimble allegedly scammed the government health insurance program in the US by selling and distributing unnecessary orthopedic braces and charging them to Medicare.

Kimble has a federal arrest warrant issued by the United States District Court in South Carolina and is now in the custody of the FBI in the United States.

"The Philippines will not serve as a sanctuary for fugitives seeking to evade justice in their home countries. These arrests demonstrate our commitment to working closely with international law enforcement partners to ensure that foreign nationals who pose a threat to public safety are located, arrested, and removed from our communities," stated BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado.

Kimble was deported on June 18, 2026, and is now on the BI's blacklist.
