The Philippine Navy (PN) is conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of a helicopter crash in Cavite City on April 11, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of its two pilots, Lieutenant Jan Kyle Q. Borres, 36, and Ensign Izzah Leonah S. Taccad, 27.

"Emphasizing the paramount importance of safety, the Philippine Navy reaffirmed its dedication to rigorous aircraft inspections and maintenance protocols to ensure airworthiness. They have vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent future occurrences," said Armed Forces of the Philippines public affairs office chief, Colonel Xerxes Trinidad.

Vice President Sara Duterte visited the wake of the two soldiers at the Cemetery of Heroes in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, yesterday, April 13, 2024. Duterte expressed her condolences to the bereaved families of the two Philippine Navy soldiers and paid tribute to their service and sacrifice for the country, according to Philippine Navy Spokesperson Commander John Percie Alcos.

Meanwhile, AFP chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. visited the wake of the deceased soldiers on April 12, 2024. Brawner assured the families of Borres and Taccad of the full support of the AFP.

Lieutenant Borres and Ensign Taccad were the pilots of the Navy training helicopter Robinson R22 NHT421 which crashed near a public market in Cavite City last Thursday.
