Ma Mingjie, aged 51, was arrested in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City on April 17, after it became known that he had fled China after being accused of a case involving forgery and embezzlement of millions of yuan through illegal means.

A warrant of arrest against Ma was issued by the Jiangbei district sub-bureau of the Public Security Bureau in Chongqing, China on December 6, 2017.

According to reports from authorities in China, Ma and his associates are accused of forging bank accounts and account names of a point-of-sale machine merchant. This led to the transfer of approximately 58 million yuan, or over eight million dollars, from the China Minsheng Banking Corporation to his bank account.
