Firefighters from Barangay Tuktukan and the Griffin Fire and Rescue Volunteers, Inc. successfully rescued a dog chained to a boat near the burning area of Candy Island, Barangay Santa Ana, Taguig City last night, May 25, 2026.
The blaze nearly engulfed the first three responding fire trucks from the massive fire in the said area.
Barangay Captain Suranie Ulanday of Barangay Tuktukan reported that their fire truck narrowly escaped the flames from the rapidly spreading fire, as did the fire trucks from Barangay Santa Ana and Barangay Wawa.
"Our team immediately advanced in order to save our truck from possible fire or damage," said Ulanday, who is also known as MamaKap and is a part of the Tuktukan firefighters.
However, their supply hose was still damaged.
"When the battery of our pumper was discharged, we were forced to push and jostle it to get the unit running again. Our unit ran out of water so we coordinated with the Griffin Fire and Rescue Volunteers who set up a portable pump in the river as a suction source to maintain the water supply," Ulanday added.
