A former student from schools in Taguig City completed two degrees from Harvard University in the United States, even gaining the high distinction of Magna Cum Laude with highest honors during the 374th commencement exercises in the prestigious university on May 29, 2025.
22-year-old Eion Nikolai Chua was formerly a student at the International School Manila and MGC New Life Christian Academy, both located in Taguig, before receiving a scholarship at Harvard.
He also joined and won several international math competitions during his studies in the Philippines.
Chua finished a double degree in Chemistry and Economics and also earned a Master's Degree in Chemistry and Chemical Biology - all within just four years.
He was also a research fellow in Harvard's Research Science in Engineering program and twice named a John Harvard Scholar.
Chua is now a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, the oldest academic honor society in the United States, established in 1776.
Chua expressed his plans to return to the Philippines to rest and explore the country's chemistry industry before returning to the United States.
In the long run, he also wishes to start a business related to chemistry that can help people in his home country.
He gave an example of potential projects such as converting agricultural waste products into bio-chemicals for farmers.
