The City Government of Taguig has entered into an agreement with the National Housing Authority (NHA) for the redevelopment of the historic Fort Bonifacio Tenement in Barangay Western Bicutan, Taguig City.
The formalization of their partnership for the redevelopment project was carried out at the New Taguig City Hall on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
The agreement was jointly signed by Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano and NHA General Manager Joeben Tai, granting authorization to the City Government of Taguig to redevelop the Fort Bonifacio Tenement under a usufruct arrangement.
This means that Taguig will have the right to use and develop the property while the ownership remains with the NHA.
The Taguig City Government will fund and implement the project, which includes the relocation of residents, prioritizing the list of qualified beneficiaries, and conducting an information campaign.
The NHA and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) will provide technical assistance, while the property ownership remains with the NHA.
The Fort Bonifacio Tenement was declared condemned way back in 2010 as it was no longer deemed safe for residents, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano stated that the comprehensive redevelopment of the Fort Bonifacio Tenement aims to improve and ensure the safety of the residents' living conditions.
"Our vision is to transform the Tenement into a safe, sustainable, and community-oriented housing development, one that preserves the social ties built through decades of shared living while providing residents with a dignified and resilient environment," Cayetano stated.
"Today marks an important milestone for the City of Taguig, one that has been many years in the making, carrying not only a plan for redevelopment but a promise of dignity, safety, and stability for hundreds of families who call the Fort Bonifacio Tenement their home. Good governance is not measured only by buildings constructed, but by the lives we rebuild and the trust we restore," she added.
