Taguig City Police Station personnel have arrested a man who pretended to be a mobile phone buyer and arranged a meet-up with the seller in Taguig City.
The 23-year-old suspect was apprehended by the Taguig police at Barangay South Signal in the early hours of Saturday, July 4, 2026.
In a viral video, the transaction between the "buyer" and the seller, which escalated to a robbery, was even captured.
The seller and the "buyer" agreed to meet at Barangay North Signal, Taguig on the night of July 1, 2026. The "buyer" came with another man, as did the victim.
When the victim and his friend were about to show the mobile phones for sale, the suspect suddenly drew a gun and forcefully took the cellphones for sale.
"I'll kill both of you if you don't hand it over!" the suspect was heard saying, which was recorded by the victim on another of his mobile phones.
The victims lost 4 mobile phones worth ₱165,000 and cash amounting to ₱25,000.
In a pursuit operation conducted by Taguig City Police, the suspect was arrested and a .45 caliber gun, bullets, and a grenade were seized from him.
The Taguig City Police stated that the suspect had been previously arrested for violating Section 28 of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
"The Taguig City Police Station assures the public that the incident was immediately addressed and that backtracking and follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect, who is still at large," stated the Taguig City Police in their social media post.
