The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Building in Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, has been declared an edifice of significant cultural value.
Recently, the Marker and Public Declaration for the National Nutrition Council Building as an "Important Cultural Property" were unveiled to the public.
The NNC building was designed by National Artist for Architecture, Leandro Locsin. Locsin is also the architect behind the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Philippine International Convention Center.
The NNC manifests his "brutalist architecture" style, in which thick concrete was used to create strong and monumental forms.
The NNC has been declared an "Important Cultural Property" by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Now that it has been declared a heritage area, the building will be protected from demolition.
It can only be modified for new projects through "adaptive reuse," such as its integration into the Metro Manila Subway, without compromising its architectural value.
