The Manila Electric Company's (Meralco) electricity rates may rise again this month due to an increase in the generation charge.
This is a result of the imposition of red and yellow alerts on the Luzon grid amidst the peak of the hot season, and with some power plants unexpectedly going offline or operating at decreased capacity.
Due to the thin supply of electricity, prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) have risen, according to Meralco.
"We continue to remind the public to practice energy efficiency to have better management over their power consumption and electricity bills," Meralco stated in a release.
Meanwhile, according to the Energy Regulatory Board, based on WESM data, the average daily price of electricity has risen by eleven percent in Luzon and fifty-three percent in Visayas due to the extreme heat.
