The three-day jeepney strike, led by the United Associations of Drivers and Operators Nationwide (PISTON), will take place from April 29 to May 1, coinciding with Labor Day.

PISTON Deputy Secretary General Ruben Baylon stated the need to protest for the livelihoods of those within the transportation sector that will be affected by the government's jeepney modernization program.

Baylon also said they would continue their current routes, even after the consolidation deadline has passed.

"Filipino citizens have a right to serve the community. Therefore, even after the deadline, drivers and operators will not stop their operations," Baylon emphasized.

PISTON has been fighting against the modernization of passenger jeepneys, fearing their livelihoods will be lost if traditional jeepneys are phased out, an issue they've been grappling with since 2017.

(Starting May 1, jeepneys that fail to consolidate will be apprehended. Filipinos have the right to serve their communities. Even after the deadline, drivers and operators will continue their routes.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had earlier assured that no further extensions for franchise consolidation will be granted under the jeepney modernization program.
