A patrolman risked his life to protect the community from criminals.
In a statement released by the Philippine National Police - National Capital Region Police Office (PNP-NCRPO) from their headquarters at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, they expressed their deep sorrow over the death of Patrolman Curtney Harwin Baggay. Baggay had responded to a robbery at Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City in the early hours of June 30, 2025.
"Pat Baggay is a hero to all of us, a very brave and committed officer who did not hesitate to give his life in the name of service. His courage in the face of danger reflects the highest ideals of selfless commitment to public safety. Without hesitation to protect others, he truly embodied what it means to serve with heart and courage," stated by the NCRPO.
Baggay engaged in a shootout with the suspect after the latter fired first, hitting the Patrolman.
Baggay and his fellow officers responded to the corner of Katuparan and Katipunan Streets after hearing gunshots. Upon arrival, the suspect pretended to be a witness and pointed out where the shooter supposedly had run off to.
The suspect shot Baggay in the right chest and the officer returned fire. Baggay's partner also shot at the suspect, resulting in the suspect's death.
It was discovered that the suspect had robbed a 44-year-old man and shot him in the left shoulder. Another person at the scene was hit by a stray bullet. Both are currently recuperating in a medical facility.
Baggay was a former teacher in Kalingan and a graduate of St. Louis University in Tuguegarao, Cagayan.
NCRPO Regional Director Police Major General Anthony Aberin has instructed all unit commanders to intensify patrolling and increase the number of officers on the beat, especially during critical hours.
"His sacrifice must compel us to serve with greater vigilance, dedication, and purpose. We offer our deepest respect and condolences to the family of Patrolman Baggay. We will extend all necessary assistance to the bereaved family in full recognition of his duty and sacrifice," stated by the NCRPO.
