Over two hundred residents of Taguig City, primarily those in underprivileged circumstances and victims of fires, have received livelihood assistance in the form of food carts from both the city government of Taguig and the Department of Labor and Employment-National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR).
The distribution of food cart livelihood packages and business startup seminars took place on June 12, 2024, to coincide with the country's 126th Independence Day celebrations, at Taguig National High School in Barangay New Lower Bicutan, Taguig City.
The city government of Taguig also held a seminar on business ventures at the Lakeshore Tent in Barangay Lower Bicutan, Taguig City.
Under the theme "Freedom from Hunger and Poverty," the beneficiaries of the food cart livelihood package were also assisted in learning about finance, how to register their businesses, and given medical checkups for the food business operators.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano initiated the livelihood assistance for the needy Taguig residents back in 2018. Apart from helping new Taguig entrepreneurs secure the necessary permits, an additional financial assistance of Php 5,000 was provided for their other business needs.
"Part of being a responsible entrepreneur, especially when it comes to food businesses that will be under your care, is to ensure protection not only for yourselves but also for your families and your customers. The City Government of Taguig will not burden you, this is an express service for you. We will teach you how to properly register your businesses. In my view, to give opportunity as an entrepreneur, you should also be taught the proper way of registering your livelihood," Cayetano explained.
One of the beneficiaries, Anabel Chaves from Barangay Western Bicutan, expressed her gratitude, saying that the food cart business granted by the city government of Taguig has significantly alleviated her family's life.
"Besides having been victims of a fire, I'm also a single parent. I'm used to running a business because I used to have a car wash service, but I could not continue due to the rising cost of water and electricity bills. I am extremely grateful to Mayor Lani Cayetano because I am one of the fortunate ones. Aside from this, my youngest child, who is about to graduate from college, is also a scholar of Taguig. This is indeed a great blessing," shared Chaves.
