Smoke was detected at the meter base in Block 2, Sitio Una Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig earlier this morning, June 20, 2026.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Taguig and the Barangay Fort Bonifacio rescue team promptly responded to prevent the onset of a fire, according to Captain Sonny Vertulfo.
"I visited the area and inspected the cause. The owner of the line arrived and we discovered that they had an air conditioner. So, I requested that they replace their line with an automatic circuit breaker. Often the causes of smoke and meter base issues are due to current overloads, especially when many appliances are connected but the amperage of the fuses/breakers going into the houses is low," Vertulfo stated regarding the incident.
Vertulfo also stressed the importance of cooperation in consistently monitoring the status of meter bases, especially when adding electrical appliances used at home.
"Sometimes additional appliances are installed or air conditioners are connected, but the flow of electricity in our homes is low, causing an overload," Vertulfo added.
In case of a fire emergency, immediate contact can be made with the BFP Taguig at (02) 8837-4496 or 0906-2110919.
