Certain areas in Metro Manila and provinces in Luzon may be affected by rotational blackouts or power outages due to a continuing decline in electricity supply.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines has declared a yellow alert after 19 power plants were forced to shut down, while others are operating with a low supply of electricity. The Luzon grid is short of 2,117.3 megawatts of electricity supply.

Yesterday, April 17, 2024, the electricity supply was insufficient from 1:00 to 2:00 in the afternoon, repeated from 4:00 to 6:00 in the evening and 6:00 to 7:00 in the evening.

The Manila Electric Company or Meralco stated that several areas in Barangay Lower Bicutan, Maharlika Village, Signal Village, Barangay Upper Bicutan and Barangay Western Bicutan in Taguig City were affected by the rotational blackout.

The NGCP is calling on citizens to conserve electricity to prevent a supply shortage.

They advise unplugging electrical appliances that are not in use and, if possible, gathering in one room to use only one air conditioning unit.
