According to preliminary investigations, the guard was at the entrance/exit of the North Park Restaurant on the lower level of Market! Market! Ayala Mall, Bonifacio BGC. He was allegedly cleaning the chamber of his issued gun.
The gun unexpectedly fired because he failed to remove the magazine.
The security guard was arrested by officers from the Taguig City Police Station for causing Alarm and Scandal and for violating Republic Act (RA) No. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), which is related to R.A. 7166 (Omnibus Election Code), following the accidental discharge of his firearm.
The guard was taken to the Station Investigation and Detective Management Section (SIDMS) for further investigation and case preparation.
The Taguig Police are also coordinating with the PNP-SOSIA to investigate the Anti-Crime Force Security Services Inc., and will submit a request to the PNP-Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO) to determine the legality and registration status of the firearm in the guard's possession.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) will also be queried to determine if the said firearm is exempted, especially as the accidental discharge occurred during the election period.
"Taguig PNP assures the public that incidents such as this will be thoroughly investigated and measures will be taken to ensure the safety and security of the community," said a statement from the Taguig Police.
