The Brigada Eskwela, led by the city government of Taguig, proceeded in the schools of Embo barangays on August 14, despite the tension from the previous Saturday, August 12. This was due to reports of Taguig guards taking over 14 schools in the barangays of District 2 of Makati, under the directive of the Supreme Court.
Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano and the staff of the Department of Education were warmly received by school principals, teachers, students, parents, and volunteers in collectively cleaning and organizing the schools previously under the care of Makati, now under Taguig.
The Taguig Brigada Eskwela began in its new jurisdiction at Makati Science High School, with the assistance of Taguig City Police Station, National Capital Region Police Office, Southern Police District, Bureau of Fire Protection, and representatives from various groups and organizations in Embo barangays.
"The goal of the local government is to express our readiness to assist DepEd TAPAT (Taguig-Pateros) to successfully carry out a week-long brigade. The Brigada Eskwela is a national initiative led by the Department of Education aiming to encourage everyone to participate in preparing public schools for the opening of the school year. This way, students will find their schools clean, orderly, and comfortable for them," Cayetano declared in her speech at Makati Science High School.
Cayetano also appealed to a group of parents and teachers to understand and be patient during the transition.
"I will fervently and earnestly liaise with officials of the Department of Education to ensure that your worries, doubts, and questions about the start of the school year will gradually be answered, clarified, and addressed," said Cayetano.
Cayetano also visited Fort Bonifacio High School and Fort Bonifacio Elementary School to observe the conducted Brigada Eskwela.
The volunteers who participated in the Brigada Eskwela in Comembo Elementary School, Rizal Elementary School, Pembo Elementary School, Benigno "Ninoy" S. Aquino High School, Tibagan High School, Fort Bonifacio Elementary School, Fort Bonifacio High School, Pitogo Elementary School, Pitogo High School, Cembo Elementary School, East Rembo Elementary School, West Rembo Elementary School, and South Cembo Elementary School were also welcomed.
