This comes after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) approved the fare increase for these public vehicles, according to DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez.
Lopez stated that he approved the recommendation of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to raise the base fare of traditional jeepneys by one peso and modern jeepneys by two pesos.
This is in addition to the financial aid of five thousand pesos to be distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to jeepney drivers. This support aims to help ease the burden of the rise in petroleum product prices due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
In the most recent increase of petroleum product prices, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced that diesel prices would increase by ₱20.40 to ₱23.90 per liter this week. Gasoline has risen by ₱12.90 to ₱16.90, and kerosene by ₱6.90 to ₱8.90.
