The City of Taguig covers the full tuition, miscellaneous fees, and a ₱15,000 monthly allowance for 30 medical students from Taguig, through the INvesting in the Value of Education through Stewardship for Taguigeños (INVEST) Scholarship Program of the local government.
Thirty future doctors were chosen as the first batch of INVEST Scholars, referred to as Batch Tanglaw, in a ceremony held at the New Taguig City Hall on Cayetano Boulevard, Barangay Ususan, Taguig City.
The INVEST scholars were admitted to the top 10 medical schools in the country.
The scholarship assistance for each INVEST scholar will reach ₱590,000 per year, depending on their medical school.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano stated that the local government has long believed that education is the foundation of sustainable progress.
"In the City of Taguig, we have always believed that investing in education is investing in the city's foundation. We invest because we believe education transforms lives. We uphold stewardship because every opportunity entrusted by the people comes with a responsibility to serve."
The mayor also noted that the program is expected to help Taguigeño future doctors contribute to the health and wellness of their fellow Taguigeño.
Those who graduate as doctors through the INVEST program are expected to serve the community once they obtain their licenses.
In addition to the INVEST scholars, over 130,000 scholars from around 200 colleges and universities are being supported.
The Taguig City Government has graduated 6,096 licensed professionals, including 88 doctors.
The 30 were chosen from an evaluation of 127 applicants, based on their academic excellence, financial need, and commitment to public service.
